This week: Adaptly’s client strategy director in the UK provides tips for UK advertisers to make the most of social media this Black Friday/Cyber Monday, Instagram tests shopping-friendly features in retailers’ posts, Facebook reports another stellar quarter, and Twitter shares a holiday shopping infographic.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are growing in popularity across the pond. UK shoppers spent £3.3 billion during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend last year, and are expected to spend even more in 2016. The best way for UK advertisers to break through the clutter during this competitive shopping period is to reach consumers where they’re most engaged: social media. Adaptly’s EMEA client strategy director Milana Saric has tips for UK advertisers to make the most of social media leading up to the big weekend.
Instagram is testing new in-app shopping capabilities with 20 US-based retailers to make the product discovery process smoother for consumers. Currently, users have to navigate from an Instagram post to a link in the poster’s profile that redirects them to the product page on a retailer’s website. The process is clunky and users don’t get much information about the merchandise before being redirected to an outside site. This new update will add a ‘tap to view’ icon on retailers’ photos that will load tags showcasing product information and prices for up to five products. Users will be able to conduct more of the browsing process within the Instagram app itself before navigating to the retailer’s website to purchase.
Facebook’s third quarter was one for the books. The company has consistently beaten earning estimates each quarter and wrapped up Q3 with over $7 billion in revenue. $6.8 billion of that is ad revenue, with 84% from mobile ads alone. Facebook now has 1.79 billion monthly users and 1.18 billion daily active users across the globe.
The first week in November means that the holiday season is officially right around the corner. If your brand hasn’t finalized your holiday social campaign plans yet, Twitter has a new infographic that will tempt your ad dollars. 67% of Twitter shoppers use the app during their holiday gift planning phase, and 43% of users are more likely to visit a store after seeing a deal on Twitter. You already know from Adaptly’s holiday strategy guide that social advertising is one of the best ways to reach shoppers this season, so check out the infographic to see just how valuable Twitter ads could be to your brand.
